Authorities said emergency crews were dispatched shortly after 3:30 p.m. following initial reports of a boat emergency between Alcatraz Island and the Golden Gate Bridge. Early reports suggested there may have been a fire aboard the vessel, but officials later clarified that the approximately 50-foot multilevel cabin cruiser had instead taken on water or encountered conditions that caused it to capsize and sink.
